A comedy courier game set in real cities

License to Deliver

You're the new courier in town, with no licence and a bicycle. Snap the sights, pick up the customs and a few local words, learn the road rules on the way, and earn your next licence.

First chapter: Tbilisi. More cities to come.

Dispatcher

New order! Twelve khinkali to the Old Town, fourth floor. The lift is "resting" again.

Tbilisi, Georgia. Deliver khinkali, keep to the right.

How an order goes

One order, four stops

Every delivery is a small episode of the story.

  1. 1

    The dispatcher calls

A new order lands in the chat: who ordered, what, where, and why it's going to be a story.

  2. 2

    Pick up the food

Collect it from a restaurant and have a chat. The restaurants are made up; the dishes are the real local ones.

  3. 3

    Ride the city

Real streets, junctions to get through, a quick question while the light is red, and sights to photograph on the way.

  4. 4

    Deliver

The customer has a word or two for you, sometimes a new phrase or a culture note. Then you get paid.

Your licence

Four collections earn the next licence

You start with no licence at all, on a bicycle. To earn the next one, fill the set the level asks for in all four collections. Every level asks for more.

Sights

A landmark comes into view from your route: tap Photo and it goes into your album. The first licence wants the city's best-known places; later ones go deeper.

Culture notes

Chat at the restaurant, with customers and with people around town. A good conversation leaves a note in your notebook.

Phrasebook

The courier speaks English but slips in local words. Each new phrase is saved with its meaning, in Latin letters.

Road rules

Met at junctions and in quick questions at red lights, each quoted from the official law. A rule counts once you get it right twice in a row.

The ladder

From bicycle to moped, motorcycle and car

Each step up needs a fuller set of all four collections and an exam in the format of the country's real theory test, with questions of our own.

Bicycle

No licence yet. The general rules for everyone on the road.

Exam

Moped · AM

The reward for the first chapter's exam.

Exam

Motorcycle · A

Faster rides, longer routes.

Exam

Car · B

The last exam, the biggest orders.

The Tbilisi chapter ends with the moped (AM) exam. In Georgia it is 20 questions, and you need at least 18 right to pass.

The story

One comedy, told in five acts

Each city is a chapter with one story that every player rides through: a rookie courier with a voice of their own, a dispatcher who never stops talking, customers who keep coming back, and a finale at the licence exam.

  1. Act I
  2. Act II
  3. Act III
  4. Act IV
  5. Act V
  6. FinaleThe licence exam

The humour is kind: it's about deliveries, food, traffic, hills and the weather. Never about anyone's nationality, religion or politics, and no real people or brands.

Road rules

The road rules come along the way

You meet them at junctions and in quick questions while you wait at a red light. Every one is tied to a sentence in the country's official traffic law.

  • Quoted word for wordEvery rule carries its article and a quote from the official text, in the original language.
  • A rulebook that keeps trackThe game remembers which rules you've met and mastered, and brings back the ones you haven't.
  • Up to date, checked by a personA weekly check watches for new editions of the law, and a driving expert checks every rule before release.

    2. Red light: stop.

      Official text in Georgian

    Not in the game yet

Rather than teach these approximately, the game leaves them out until they are modelled properly:

    • Art. 36(3)(b), (3)(c), (3)(g), (4)(c) second sentence: rail vehicles and extra arrow sections are not modelled yet.
    • Art. 36(4)(b) is applied through ge-36-4-g: drivers whose approaches have the same priority use the equal-road rules among themselves.
    • Art. 36(6), (8): unpaved roads and unseen road surface are not modelled.
    • STOP sign (Annex 1): no rule yet. Junctions with a mapped STOP sign on the courier's approach are not played.

    One game, many cities

Each city is a new chapter with its own story, dispatcher and dish, its own sights, customs and phrases to collect, and its own country's road rules, down to the side of the road you ride on.
